New Zealand pilots license conversion

Under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement (TTMRA), New Zealand pilots can apply to have their New Zealand pilot qualifications recognised by the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA). More information on this process and application forms may be obtained from the pilot licensing pages on the CASA website: www.casa.gov.au. 

How can the Australian High Commission or Consulate-General help?

The Australian High Commission or Consulate-General can assist by making certified copies of documents, and witnessing the required Statutory Declaration. We do not stock CASA application forms or copies of the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement.

The making of the certified copies and the witnessing of the Statutory Declaration takes about 30 minutes.  An appointment is required prior to attending the High Commission (Wellington) or Consulate-General (Auckland).   We do not act as an agent for CASA and you are responsible for forwarding your application to CASA in Australia. 

Certified copies 

The documents which you are required to present to CASA are listed on the CASA website. and may vary depending on your licence and endorsements. We are able to make certified copies of documents so you do not need to send the originals to CASA in Australia.

Please decide which documents you wish to have copied before coming to the High Commission or Consulate-General. You are responsible for identifying which documents you wish to have copied, and we cannot advise on what supporting documentation you need to provide to CASA.

Do not bring pre-prepared photocopies. The copies must be made by the High Commission or Consulate-General staff. View the current prices, which are charged per certified document.

Statutory Declaration 

In New Zealand, the Statutory Declaration may be witnessed in person by a Consular or Diplomatic Officer at the Australian High Commission or Consulate-General. New Zealand JP\'s and Solicitors etc are NOT able to witness this Australian Statutory Declaration. For instructions on how to complete the Statutory Declaration, please see: www.casa.gov.au.

The Australian High Commission or Consulate-General staff cannot advise you on what to write in the Statutory Declaration and any further questions should be directed to CASA. Blank Statutory Declaration forms can be obtained from the High Commission or Consulate-General and the Declaration must be signed by you in front of the Consular or Diplomatic Officer. What do I need to bring with me to the Australian High Commission or Consulate-General? 

  • ID showing your current name and signature, such as a passport or driver\'s licence.

  • The originals of any documents, licences, certificates, logbook pages that you wish to have copied. Please decide which pages you want copied before coming to the High Commission or Consulate-General.

  • Make sure you have read the TTMRA instructions (downloadable from www.casa.gov.au), and bring your instructions on what to write on the Statutory Declaration.

  • The fee for both the certified copies and Statutory Declaration.
