Reminder about validity of passports when travelling to Australia
Australia requires that your passport must be valid only for the period of your intended travel in and out of Australia. There is no requirement for your passport to be valid for six months after your travel.
You should allow a minimum of 6 weeks to receive a passport, no matter where you apply.

If you are eligible for an adult renewal or child (under 16 years) renewal, you can lodge your application by mail.
All other applications must be submitted in person and by appointment only.
Passports are currently subject to a processing time of approximately 6 weeks from date of payment, so planning well ahead is important.
Wellington Passport fees will be payable in Australian dollars (AUD) via debit/credit card.
Applications lodged in Auckland will be payable via EFTPOS, or debit/credit card in New Zealand dollars (NZD).
You will be required to provide a New Zealand Courier pre-paid signature required self-addressed courier bag for the return of your passport. Check the New Zealand Post website for further information on courier bags.

How to book an appointment
Passport services are provided during selected business hours, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
An appointment is required prior to attending the High Commission (Wellington) or Consulate-General (Auckland).
The Australian High Commission in Wellington provides passport services to Australian citizens in New Zealand.
Passport counter opening hours: Monday to Friday - 9:00am to 12:30pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm

We do not have onsite parking so please allow extra time. ALL visitors to our offices are subject to security measures. If you are asked to put items in storage, please take your paperwork and payment with you.

An additional “Overseas Application Fee" will be applied to passport applications lodged overseas. The fee will not apply to Emergency passport applications as the validity of these passports is very limited.
Lost or stolen passport
Passports can only be reported lost or stolen by calling the Australian Passport Office Contact Centre (APOCC) on +61 131 232, via post overseas/state offices in Australia, or during the lodgement of a new application.
